Drug Safety & Side-Effects Information
Your health comes first. This page explains how Pinoymeds supports safe use of medicines, what side effects are, how to spot them, and what to do next, calmly and in plain language.
Significant: This page is for general information only and does not replace medical advice. If you think you’re having a severe reaction, seek emergency care immediately.
What counts as a “side-effect”?
A side-effect (also called an adverse effect or adverse reaction) is any unwanted or unexpected symptom that happens after taking a medicine at regular doses.
Side effects can be:
- Common & usually mild (e.g., stomach upset, headache, drowsiness)
- Less common (e.g., skin rash, dizziness)
- Serious (e.g., swelling of the face/throat, severe shortness of breath, chest pain, fainting, seizures, black/tarry stools, yellowing of eyes/skin)
Red-flag symptoms, act now: trouble breathing, swelling of lips/tongue/face, severe rash or hives, chest pain, sudden confusion, fainting, seizures, severe abdominal pain, or vomiting blood. Stop the medicine and seek emergency care.
How Pinoymeds supports safe use
- Genuine, batch-tracked products: We source from authorized channels and record batch/expiry on your documents.
- Original labels & leaflets: Packages include the manufacturer’s instructions; read them before use.
- Clear category guidance: We show whether a product is non-controlled (courier-eligible) or controlled (hand-carry with IC-1) so you follow the correct legal path.
- Human help, fast: Questions about a product or a symptom? Chat with Pinoymeds on WhatsApp/Messenger or open a helpdesk ticket, we’ll guide you to the right next step and, when appropriate, to a licensed doctor for advice.
Before you start any medicine: a quick safety check
1) Your prescription
- Take exactly as prescribed (name, strength, dose, timing, duration).
- Don’t share your medicine with anyone.
2) Other medicines & conditions
- Tell your doctor about all medicines you take, Rx, OTC, vitamins, and herbal products.
- Share key medical history (e.g., kidney/liver issues, heart rhythm problems, asthma, ulcers, glaucoma).
3) Pregnancy & breastfeeding
- Always ask a clinician before starting or stopping anything.
4) Daily activities
- Some medicines cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how you feel.
- Check the alcohol and caffeine advice on the leaflet.
5) Storage
- Keep in original packs, away from heat, moisture, and children. For any cold-chain item, follow the temperature instructions precisely.
If you think you’re having a side-effect
For mild or expected symptoms (e.g., slight nausea, mild headache):
- Read the patient leaflet section on side effects.
- Contact your doctor or message Pinoymeds if you’re unsure.
- Do not change the dose or stop a prescribed medicine without medical advice, unless you suspect a severe reaction.
For severe or allergy-type symptoms (red flags):
- Stop the medicine and seek emergency care immediately.
- Bring the medicine pack, leaflet, and your prescription with you.
Missed dose? Overdose?
- Missed dose (general rule): If it’s close to your next dose, skip the missed one, don’t double up. If not, take it when you remember. Confirm with the leaflet or your doctor for drug-specific instructions.
- Accidental overdose: Seek urgent medical help and show the medicine pack and leaflet.
Interactions & special cautions (high-level)
- Drug–drug interactions: Certain painkillers, antibiotics, heart and mental-health medicines can interact with each other. Always disclose everything you take.
- Food & drink: Grapefruit juice, alcohol, or high-caffeine products may affect certain medicines.
- Long-term therapies: Your clinician may request labs or follow-ups (e.g., kidney/liver tests, blood counts). Keep those appointments.
- Kids & older adults: Doses differ. Use proper dosing devices for liquids; never guess or use household spoons.
Note: Pinoymeds doesn’t know your complete medical history and cannot automatically detect every interaction. When in doubt, ask your doctor or message us and we’ll help route your question.
Reporting a side-effect (pharmacovigilance)
Your report helps keep everyone safer.
Tell Pinoymeds:
- Order number, medicine name/strength/brand
- Batch/lot & expiry (from your label or invoice)
- Dose/frequency, start date, what happened, and when
- Other medicines taken at the same time
- Any action taken (stopped, dose changed) and outcome.
We’ll guide you on the next steps and, where appropriate, help you report to your national health authority and the manufacturer. You should also inform your prescribing doctor.
Privacy: We handle safety reports per our Privacy Policy and share only what’s necessary with relevant parties.
Disposal & travel tips
- Expired or damaged items: don’t use. Ask a pharmacist or local authority about safe disposal, don’t flush unless the leaflet says to.
- Travel: keep medicines in hand luggage, in original packs, with your prescription (and IC-1 if controlled). Carry enough for your trip, plus a small buffer if advised by your clinician.
What Pinoymeds can help with today
- Unsure if your medicine is controlled or non-controlled? We’ll check the active ingredient and show the correct route (courier vs hand-carry with IC-1).
- Need clarity on dose, timing, storage, or side-effect wording in the leaflet? Send us a photo, and we’ll point you to the right section to help you interpret it (no medical diagnosis).
- Don’t have a prescription? Book a tele-consult; a licensed doctor will decide independently if a prescription is appropriate.
